A “key” is a machine element used to connect a rotating element to a shaft. Once installed, the key prevents rotation between the two parts to enable torque transmission. For a key to function, the shaft and the rotating component must have a keyway and a keyseat, which is the pocket in which the key fits. For the pump industry, we machine thousands of keyways/keyseats per year, where the internal shafts and impellers connect to one another.
Broaching is a machining process that uses a toothed tool, called a broach, to remove material. With our linear broaching capabilities, the broach is run linearly against the surface of the workpiece to effect the cut. In the broaching process, the cut is performed in one pass of the broaching tool, which makes it very efficient.
At c-b tool, we use a variety of equipment to machine keyways, keyseats and broaches. Including our CNC lathes and our dedicated key seater machine.
